OnePlus has announced new, albeit familiar, processor for the OnePlus 2. They are going with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor for it’s speed and ability to multitask while maintaining great battery life. The chip has eight CPU cores and 64-bit computing. Some other features the 810 can provide are 4K HD video, fast/crisp photos, and immersive 3D gaming brought to you by the Adreno 430 GPU.

Pete Lau, OnePlus’ founder and CEO, shared the news on the company’s forums site:

“Today, I am proud to share with you that our eagerly-awaited OnePlus 2 will come loaded with the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 810 v2.1 processor, engineered for OnePlus and our next generation flagship phone.”

There have been talks in the mobile world that the Snapdragon 810 has overheating issues and other manufactures have steered away from using it because of that. Most notably the LG G4 shipped with the older Snapdragon 808. However, OnePlus says they have taken all the necessary precautions to prevent any issues from happening in the OnePlus 2 by working directly with Qualcomm’s engineers bringing a improved version (v2.1).

Lau also explained the design of the processor:

“Inside the 2, the 810 consists of several CPU processors. Layered on top of these processors is both thermal gel and graphite placed across different areas of the phone. This graphite ensures that heat generated from the processors will dissipate evenly, as opposed to being concentrated and leading to performance issues. After rigorous testing, the 2 meets the industry standard for phone temperature, even with hours of use.”

OnePlus is also stating that OxygenOS has been fully optimized to work perfectly with the new processor. They plan on doing this by setting aside a couple of processors to be used for graphics-heavy gaming while small processor would be used for small things like text messaging. Basically it will be able to decide how much power goes to what and avoids using two or more processors that are beside each other.
